Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout :

Goodreads : Dying sucks-- and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.
Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.
However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

My thoughts : I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Armentrout's Luxen and Covenant series so I was really excited to read Cursed. However, I liked this book but not nearly as much as Jennifer's other books, Cursed was only an ok read to me.
I honestly didn't care much for the plot and the characters that much which was definitely a downer for me. I had trouble connecting with Ember eventhough she was definitely a great heroine : but not the kick ass kind of protagonists I love. She has a very tough life and she's taking care of her little sister Olivia after her dad died in a car accident and her mother went a bit crazy .. She got this gift/curse when her little sis brought her back from the dead : she can't touch people without killing them (which is definitely a curse). I found her story to be very sad but other than that I coudln't relate to her in any way ...
Hayden was a great character though a bit too déjà vu for me and really common compared to Armentrout's other swoonworthy male characters (Daemon, Aiden and Seth). I enjoyed the romance but didn't love it though : it was sweet but I wasn't blown away by it.
I liked the gifts all these kids had and the mystery around the Facility and not knowing who was threatening Ember ..
Is it a standalone ? the ending was definitely satisfying enough for it not to require a second book .. Overall, I thought Cursed was a nice read but it wasn't the gripping read I was hoping for as the plot was pretty cliché and the characters got on my nerves at times.

I'm dying to get my copy of Deity which will release in a few days now !!Can't wait !!

★★★ It was ok

Waiting on Wednesday : Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead :

Goodreads : In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military’s most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills.
When Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders, they soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board.
Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such megasuccesses: sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; and relentless action and suspense.

Dying to read : I can't wait for Gameboard of the Gods, I absolutely love everything Richelle writes, both her YA and adult novels so I'm dying to read her next series !! It sounds super awesome and I the cover looks so pretty.

Review : Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill :

Goodreads : Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was Merit's. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker-and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.
Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she's traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude- and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan's attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone's still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war-and there will be blood.

My thoughts : Some Girls Bite was exactly the book I needed to get out of my reading slump : it was a quick and sexy read and it made me realized that I hadn't read that kind of paranormal stories in a while and I had missed it a lot.
The story starts when Merit has been turned into a vampire and she has to adapt to her new life and self. Luckily she has this great best friend Mallorie who I thought was very funny : I really enjoyed the interactions between the 2 friends.
Merit was a great heroine : she gets more and more badass as the story progresses and I love kickass characters !!
Ethan is the master vampire who turned her .. I'm not really sure what I think of him just yet : of course he was this smoking hot guy but he was also a bit of a jackass to Merit when he insisted on her obeying him and all .. But I have the feeling that he'll change in the next books and I'll love him after having read the second book in the series.
Catcher was a great character as well, he's a sorcerer and Mallorie's boyfriend and I thought they made such an original couple !! Morgan was cool character too but I know I'll be rooting for Ethan and Merit ..
I really enjoyed the fact that vampires had confessed their existence to humans and that they belonged to different houses : I don't think I had ever read a vampire novel such as this one so the uniqueness definitely played a great part in me loving this book.

Overall, Some Girls Bite was an awesome first installment and I can't wait to read the next books in the Chicagoland Vampires series.

Trying to get out of this reading slump :

Hey guys, long time no see !! I'm really sorry I've been MIA .. I haven't had time to read at all which makes me really sad.. I have tons of books to read for uni and I'm also trying to make the most of this Erasmus experience :). But I miss reading (books I actually want to read) soooo much so I'm going to try to get out of this reading slump .. I started reading Scarlet a couple of weeks ago and I'm only halfway through it so I'm going to stop reading it and will get back to it later.

I'm starting to read Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill and I'm really hoping I'll enjoy this one. Have you read this series, is it good ?
