Review : Bitter End by Jennifer Brown

Goodreads : When Alex falls for the charming new boy at school, Cole, a handsome, funny, sports star who adores her, she can't believe she's finally found her soul mate-someone who truly understands her and loves her for who she really is.At first, Alex is blissfully happy. Sure, Cole seems a little jealous of her relationship with her best friends, Zack and Bethany, but what guy would want his girlfriend spending all of her time with another boy? But as the months pass, Alex can no longer ignore Cole's small put-downs, pinches, or increasingly violent threats. As Alex struggles to come to terms with the sweet boyfriend she fell in love with and the boyfriend whose "love" she no longer recognizes, she is forced to choose - between her "true love" and herself.

My review : Once again Jennifer Brown blew me away ! I read Hate List a month ago and fell in love with this author : her writing is beautiful, she tackles difficult issues and always manages to move me.. Bitter End didn't left me down at all! You could say it starts as your usual contemporary romance : girl meets boy, they fall for each other and an epic romance sets up. However, it doesn't remain idyllic and slowly turns into a true nightmare. Cole, who appears to be the golden boy, abuses Alex (the main character) and keeps her away from all the good things in her life (like her two best friends). I love how Jennifer Brown can write so well about such tough issues, she always somehow manages both to put the reader into the protagonist's shoes and to make us adopt a more personal perspective regarding what the protagonist is going through. Bitter End was really moving and had a strong impact on me. You always tell yourself "if I was abused" or "if a man ever hit me I would never put up with it" ..  but Bitter End made me realize that you never know how you would react until you've been in this situation.
Seriously, if you haven't read any of Jennifer Brown's books, I strongly advise you to do so ! I can assure you that it's definitely not the last one I read .

Overall, this book was everything I wished for : mind-blowing and it really had a strong impact on me. I strongly recommend you to check out Jennifer Brown's books if you haven't yet.
