Review : Vampire Academy, The Ultimate Guide.

Goodreads : Sink your teeth into the perfect holiday gift and must-have collector's item for every fan of Richelle Mead's totally addicting Vampire Academy series.
Discover the history of St. Vladimir's Academy, explore the dark psychology behind Rose and Lissa's spirit bond, and find out even more illicit secrets about Moroi society. This ultimate guide will feature everything readers want and need to go even deeper into the world of Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, and Last Sacrifice . . . every heartache, every betrayal, every sacrifice, and so much more!

My review : I have to admit that I'm greatly disappointed in this book, it was totally the opposite of what I expected. When I heard that a guide featuring one of my favourite YA series ever was about to be published, I was thrilled ! However, the guide didn't meet my expectations and really failed to deliver news about the Vampire Academy world, according to me. The first part of the guide consists in summaries of the six books in the series and there are some quotations scattered around these summaries.  That's one of the things I enjoyed about the guide : reading some of my favourites quotes from the VA books. The second section of the guide deals with the VA world and we get to read small presentations of each character (once again, nothing new). If you've read Vampire Academy you already know all of these small details such as the colour of Rose's hair or the fact that Dimitri is very tall .. We also get to read  definitions of the most important notions of the VA world (strigoi, alchemists, the meaning of each tatoo, each royal family ..). However, the one thing I loved reading was the Questions&Answers between Michelle Rowen and Richelle Mead. That's where the reader gets to learn some new things about the VA world. These Q&A were exactly what I was expecting to be in this guide.
Overall, I don't think this book brings that much info but I may have had too high expectations regarding this guide. I felt like it was a bit too commercial actually. There are some very nice excerpts though (Q&A with Richelle Mead, the quotes from the books, extracts from the graphic novels, illustrations ..). Besides, this book looks gorgeous, I can assure you that it'll look great on your shelves.
2.5 Stars

  1. Oh, I'm disappointed :/ I expected it to be a little marvel that would bring me back into the VA-world and I wanted to learn some new spicy information or some illustrations (not these from the graphic novel though) :D Maybe I'll be patient and wait until the French release ...
Thank you for the review ! ;)

  2. I've noticed you've started blogging again! Yay! I'm sorry this one was such a disappointment for you. When I finally get around to reading the VA series, I'll be sure to skip this one add-on.

  3. Hmm, too bad. I hope to read Vampire Academy in 2012 because of all the amazing things I've heard, but I guess I'll be skipping this one!
